MV Freewinds Achieves Historic Milestone of 500,000 Safe Sea Miles During Caribbean Voyage

The motor vessel FREEWINDS, a prominent passenger ship operating in the Caribbean, has officially reached a historic maritime milestone by completing500,000 safe sea miles without an incident. The landmark achievement was logged during its latest voyage from Oranjestad, Aruba, to Cartagena, Colombia.

The half-million-mile mark represents decades of continuous, safe operations and adherence to international maritime safety standards

Achieving 500,000 safe sea miles is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our crew, engineers, and officers; said the Captain of the Freewinds. The FREEWINDS has sailed throughout the Caribbean region for over three decades, serving as a religious retreat for the Church of Scientology as well as humanitarian work and cultural events in her ports of call. Over its long career, the vessel has received numerous accolades from regional port authorities for its high maintenance standards and contributions to local communities through volunteer programs.

Following her stay in Colombia, the Freewinds is scheduled to continue its regular itinerary across the Caribbean, maintaining its rigorous safety protocols as it begins its next half-million miles.

History of Freewinds

1968 while half built for Swedish Lion for Bremerhaven - Harwich ferry service vessel was sold to Wallenius Lines who completed the vessel as a cruise ship. Vessel was under German flag  and chartered to Commodore Cruise Line for Caribbean cruising
1980 Vessel returned to Blohm and Voss, Hamburg for refit of air conditioning and other updates
1980 Vessel operated 7 day Caribbean cruise out of Miami
1981 Commodore Cruise Line and vessel sold to Rederi Ab Sally and reregistered under Panama flag
1983 - 1984  Refitted in Bremerhaven
1986 Sold to San Donoto Properties Corporation for conversion for Church of Scientology International use. During conversion there were serious issues with asbestos and structural integregrity 
1988 Vessel back in service
