MSC Flavia

The ultra large container ship MSC Flavia was damaged by storm during passage of Pacific Ocean en route from Xiamen, China to Los Angeles, USA. The vessel reported several hull damages and unspecified number of lost containers due to storm in Mid-Pacific. The ship was hit by storm with heavy winds and big swell with waves height over 10 meters. There were sufficient damages of the vessel’s hull and containers carried on board, as some of them were even lost at sea.

The container carrier remained seaworthy and successfully arrived at Los Angeles, where will be inspected and repaired. The company operator and local authorities will follow an investigation about the accident.

The ultra large container ship MSC Flavia (IMO: 9467433) has overall length of 366.00 m, moulded beam of 48.00 m and maximum draft of 13.40 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 139,466 DWT and the gross tonnage is 140,096 GRT. The carrier was built in 2012 by Stx Offshore & Shipbuilding Jinhae Shipyard in South Korea and operate for MSC Mediterranean Shipping under the flag of Panama.
