Pilbara Ports logs third straight record month as Port Hedland throughput hits 40.6Mt

Pilbara Ports posted 55.9 million tonnes of throughput in February 2026, up 13% year on year and extending a three-month run of record volumes at Port Hedland, according to Pilbara Ports.
Port Hedland handled 40.6Mt, including 40Mt of iron ore exports, an 8% increase from February 2025, while imports fell 8% to 168,000 tonnes.Dampier throughput rose 25% year on year to 12.5Mt, with imports up 40% to 131,000 tonnes.
The gains follow operational changes introduced in the previous financial year at Port Hedland, including revised ebb-tide departure guidelines enabling additional sailing windows for larger vessels, alongside continued optimisation of Dynamic Under Keel Clearance.The adjustments increased cargo intake per call and supported higher overall volumes.
Pilbara Ports Authority is a statutory authority established under the Government of Western Australia, responsible for the strategic management, development and operation of port infrastructure across the Pilbara region, including Port Hedland, Dampier, Ashburton and Varanus Island.
